In terms of getting these great runners involved in the community, I think one of the most effective venues is simply have them talk to school assemblies. While having them talk to kids at meets is great, it is somewhat like preaching to the choir. Bring it to the people who don't know what they are missing.
When I was at South we had the likes of Mike Ryan, Lisa Savell Drew, Deanne Dahmer and Kevin Stoots out there talking to folks in conjunction with promoting the Red Cross Run. It worked.
Speaking of horse flies....we have been attacked by vicious flies, I believe young horse flies, while running in the evening by dog river. Does anybody have ideas about avoiding them- time of day, eradicating them-city sprayers, or joining them- Jeff Goldblum (The Fly).
I would appreciate any help.
