Question about times

My understanding was that the chip system recorded your time across the start AND finish line and subtracted the difference to give you your time. I crossed the starting line about 2 min. after the start of the race (8:00). I measured my time (starting line to finish line) at 1:04 but, the chip recorded me at 1:06. It seems suspicious that the difference in time is almost exactly (within a few seconds) the amout of time it took me to get to the starting line. Could the chip have missed me crossing the starting line? Or, am I confused, and the chip only records from start of the race to the finish line.

To the Pacers, I really enjoyed the race. Nice pre and post race activities. Hope to do it again next year.
