Jon, et al:
Dispensing with 8 paragraphs of disclaimers about how I'm not a person with a say on this matter: not a regular race volunteer; not a club volunteer (anymore); not anything other than a regular "Jane" when it comes to races, I WOULD like to say that I always LOVED that the New Orleans Track Club (and/or other N.O. race orgs) ran their 1-milers first!! Back in the day when I raced there a lot, I often used them for warm ups, which was terrific, and on one golden day I even won the female 1-mile, thinking right until the very last moments that the curly blond with racing singlet ahead of me was a female.....he wasn't! Does anyone else remember that really good male runner with the gorgeous shoulder-lenght curly hair??? Anyway, I went on to win the female racewalk afterwards.......or was it all just a dream......?
In any case, for both the reasons Jon put forth, AND for the reasons of making for a great and thorough warm-up, I think Jon's idea is a mile-high.
(Not that I'm in that club or anything.)
