There is not a certified 1 miler. All the dialog on the subject was way late as far as planning, applications, permits, USATF submissions, and the like. Any input I added to this site was about 2010.
The 8K is, historically, not a race where a lot of kids show for the run due to the length. If we have a lot of people ask for a fun run, we'll put a cone out and reset the clock. The distance will be what works for the street layout.
