Time to kick off the Corporate Cup competition and the first race of the season....The Hurricane Run!!! Here is the latest, greatest, breaking news for the Race Director:
This year the Pacers are adding a ½ mile “Kids Run” to the event. This will be the first Pacer race that will have awards for the kids/fun run. Awards will be given to participants 12 and under; top three overall boy and girl and top three in four age groups. All children will receive a participation ribbon at the finish. There will also be special door prizes for the children, with the Grand Prize being entry into Fort Gains for a family of five. Goodies and fun for the kids include; face painting, DI Fire and Rescue Fire Truck at the race start and Blue Bell creamsicles.
Adult participants in the 5K (or the ½ mile) will also have lots of “goodies”. Unique awards by local artist Dena McKee, lots of fantastic door prizes with Grand Prize of Sunset/Dolphin cruise for two with Salty Dog Charter. There will be the ever popular hot dogs and “kegs” along with soft drinks, chips and cookies. Also, fresh fruit donated by Greer’s Old Bay Market.
The Estuarium is offering $1.00 off entry with race numbers on race day. Mobile SPCA will have the “Whiskers Wagon” in the area of the post race ceremony. Elements Massage will be offering pre and post race massages. Jon Adams will act as emcee for the event and awards ceremony. We will have the Azalea Trail Maids at the finish line and the Alma Bryant High School Color Guard will be at the starting line at 8:00 am for Presentation of Colors and National Anthem. The 5K starts at 8:10 am with the starting pistol being fired by the Mayor of Dauphin Island (he will have a stand-in dignitary available if he can’t make it!). The Kids Run will start at 9:00am, so you can run with your kids in the ½ mile after you complete the 5K!
The Coast Guard Unit on the Island has planned to hold their Open House in conjunction with the Hurricane Run. The facility will be open for tours as well as tours of the boat. They will also have information on Hurricane Preparedness. There is no fee for the Open House.
The Town of Dauphin Island has agreed to open parking at the Town Offices for race participants and their families. This will include free shuttle to and from race site starting at 7:00 am until 11:00 am on the “Crabbie Cabbie” shuttle.
Race day registration will be at DI Sea Lab Pavilion on the east end of the Island adjacent to Fort Gains starting at 6:45 am ending at 7:40 am for the 5K and 8:30 am for Kids Run.
