why even have a 5k option for the atr?

growing up, i thought the ATR was 10 miles long.
when you saw someone with an ATR shirt you knew they were tough.
but now...pretty much anyone can get one.
the CCC doesnt have a 5k option. why does the ATR?

does having a 5k option for a nationally known 10k race dilute its reputation?
