gradually build your mileage up to 35 to 45 miles per week. (You should never increase your mileage by more than 10% from week to week.) If you are already at that point, pick a training plan and follow it as close as possible. Don't do 2 hard days such as speed, hills or tempos in consecutive days. Always put an easy day between the hard ones. If you miss a hard day, FORGET ABOUT IT and get back on your plan's schedule. I like Benji Durden's marathon program because I like to do long runs by time instead of distance that way you don't push too hard to get the distance done. If you know you got to do 2 hrs, you will only run faster if you're feeling good. There's always that temptation to get that long run overwith. Apalachicola was my 10th marathon and I learned a little in each of the previous 9 to help me make my goal of a sub 3 hour marathon.
