First of all the police have to stop meddling in the race, it should be a given that we get all of Canal every year.
Secondly the race has to put out the money to pay for a second finish mat(they are expensive)for the 5K and bicycle racks to keep the 5Kers separate on the finish stretch on Claiborne. I think at least part of the reason for the merge is so we can use one finish mat. Look to see the race entry fee go up a dollar if we use a second mat.
If the people involved care enough they should get together several petitions, one to the police about Canal and another to the ATR race committee. Emphasize that it's just matter of time until somebody gets badly hurt because of the merge. Right now posting on the Forum is like preaching to the choir. Get the petitions going now but try to meet with the race committee when it is formed later this year.
