MOBILE, Alabama - The ninth annual SEEDS Classic Rock 5K and Fun Run will be held in Daphne on Saturday.
The 5K race starts at 8 a.m., with the 1-mile fun run set for 9 a.m. The event is headquartered at the Daphne Civic Center Plaza on Main Street.
The event benefits SEEDS, Daphne's educational enrichment foundation.
Runners can register at McCoy Outdoor and Run-N-Tri in Mobile and Running Wild in Fairhope until noon Thursday. Runners can register online until midnight Wednesday. Race-day registration will be held from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at Daphne City Hall.
Overall top finishers will receive museum shop gift items from the National Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Classic-rock medals will go to all age-group winners. Fun run participants will receive commemorative ribbons.
Because Saturday is Read Across America Day, the postrace party is likely to feature several Dr. Seuss characters. Also on tap are live classic-rock entertainment, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, soft drinks and door prizes.
The second annual Maranatha 5K Race and Fun Run will be held on the University of South Alabama campus on Saturday. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. with the 1-mile fun run beginning at 9 a.m.
Organized by the USA Catholic Student Association and the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese of Mobile, the event aids the education of seminarians of the Archdiocese.
Runners can register at McCoy Outdoor and Run-N-Tri in Mobile and Running Wild in Fairhope until noon Thursday. Runners can register online until midnight Thursday. Race-day registration will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the USA intramural fields.
After the race, food and refreshments will be available, and there'll be door prizes.
