The SEEDS Classic Rock 5K and Fun Run will be held on Saturday, March 1, at Daphne City Hall. The 5K will start at 8 a.m. with the fun run at 9.

Organized by Supporting Education Enrichment in Daphne's Schools, the event benefits SEEDS' 2014 classroom education grants.

Runners can register at McCoy Outdoor and Run-N-Tri in Mobile and Running Wild in Fairhope until noon Thursday or online until midnight Wednesday. Race-day registration will be held from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at Daphne City Hall.

The post-race party will feature live classic-rock entertainment, door prizes, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, and soft drinks.


The 24th annual Joe Cain Classic 5K, 1-Mile and MoonPie Dash will be held on Sunday, with the 5K starting at 8 a.m. from Broad and Canal streets in Mobile.

Organized by Bay Area Runners, the event benefits challenged athletes.

Runners can register at McCoy Outdoor and Run-N-Tri in Mobile and Running Wild in Fairhope until noon Thursday or online until midnight Thursday. Race-day registration will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the race site.

The post-race block party will feature door prizes, food, refreshments and festivities.

The Mobile County Public School System Learn and Play 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at the MCPSS Central Office.

The event benefits school system academic and fitness grants.

Fruit, snacks and beverages will be provided after the race.

Many More Miles

Baldwin Bone and Joint, P.C., in Daphne has organized the Many More Miles campaign for the 11th consecutive year. Many More Miles collects gently used athletic shoes for the homeless outreach programs of Wings of Life and Discovery Ministries.

Many More Miles is done in partnership with Mobile and Baldwin County YMCA branches, the Port City Pacers, University of South Alabama Student Recreation Center and McCoy Outdoor Company. Last year, almost 2,000 pairs of shoes were collected.

Shoes will be accepted through the Azalea Trail Run on March 22. Shoes, tied in pairs, can be donated at Baldwin Bone and Joint at 1505 Daphne Ave. in Daphne, YMCA facilities in Mobile and Daphne, Glass Orthodontics at 1303 Main St. in Daphne, McCoy Outdoor Co. at 3498 Springhill Ave. in Mobile, the University of South Alabama Student Recreation Center and the Azalea Trail Run Expo at the Mobile Civic Center on March 21-22.
