By eliminating the age groups 65 and above the run clearly was penny wise and pound foolish. By my count there were no more than 8 runners above the age of 60 or older that ran the race on a popular course. Assuming the usual age groups had been in effect the cost of each runner additional runner would not have been more than $10(assuming each got an award plus Peggy's fee). 15 additional runners would have brought in at least $200 profit to the bottom line.
