If you notice with other charitable organizations (public radio or public TV), the "enticement" value is deducted from your donation value for tax purposes. If you give $50 to PBS and get a t shirt, your receipt for taxable donation is $50 minus $15 or the value of the t shirt. I do not see how you could figure the portion of the donation going to charity in a road race. Of course if you are very aggressive in your deductions, you might think that just because you have canceled checks written to Red Cross, March of Dimes, St Jude etc. then you can claim a deduction. You cannot.
