Lynn:
My wife and I lived and ran in SLC for approx. 10 years prior to moving. There are several nice places to run close to downtown. I will give you a list and description:
1. Liberty Park - Located near 7th east and around 9th south. You
can do 1.375 mile loops on the pavement or do approx. 1.5-1.75 mile
loops on the grass. Lots of runners, very safe place to run. Very
flat, important to people like me who are now permanently hill
challenged.
2. City Creek Canyon - Located on east side of State capital
building. You can park on the road just east of the capital. You
start running up "gravity drive" towards the mountains. After about
a mile you reach the mouth of city creek canyon. You can run up the
canyon up to an additional 5 miles. Once you start running up the
canyon it's pretty much up hill with some flat spots, you will climb
from 4400 feet up to about 5300 feet. If you don't want to go up
city creek you can continue going around "gravity drive" and head up
into the avenues area area of SLC. When we lived there, the canyon
was closed to cars on odd days
