With everything said, I think a lot of the calls for chip timing came about because of the posting of race results in the Mobile Swampscum Paper, the Sunday following the race. Those on the cusp of a benchmark time (40:00; 45:00; 50:00 100:00, etc) that came in just under that time by their watch, had to tell their friends, "Well I really broke...even though the paper had me at..." Well, the chip time will be able to prove your point. You will also be able to point to your personal competitions among friends that you took 'em. (for me that will point out that I wasn't really 25th, but...) I just pray the paper has the chip time in the paper. So now everyone knows the USATF rule.
