it is hard to figure out the best approach. The first time I ran it in 2001, I did it your way but my magic number was 3:20:59 so I went out a little more conservative just under 8 min pace for 10 miles then raced 16.2 miles. That strategy worked for me (3:19:35) but I was not prepared as well then and knew that I could not run all 26.2 miles hard. I guess what I'm saying is that I still don't know mayber I'll do it one more time.
