The first time I ran the Hurricane it started at a cafe across from the school, the original race was started by Gerry Tomlinson and his group of Pacers, some of the few runners that still run who were in that race were the Welshes(Kent and Cay), Mike Sealy was there and probably Dave Jeffrey and Suzanne Pierce. Some others were Iron Man Stennet and Larry Holmes. Several years later the Race was moved to the Firehouse and it was certified.

Nancy Cramer and Marshall McMillin, who were civil war history buffs, were the principle movers behind the BOMB but I don't know if they were responsible for the race being created.
