It doesn't hurt to be fast either, as the age groups are not generously broken down into 5-year categories as they are for age group awards in races. In essence, the fields end up being much deeper, but it is great competition for serious (or naturally gifted) runners. I should add that more points are available for each designated race, so the chances of accumulating points are leveled just a bit. To borrow from the theme song for the NYC marathon, whoever wins at the end of the season can truly claim to be king (or queen) of the hill, top of the heap. Good Luck!
