I was laughing that anyone could think that insects are animals. The big daddy classification, kingdom, definitely defines animalia and...well, there I went blank. What were insects? I knew they were arthropods, but what was their kingdom name? So I looked it up. Guess what? Animalia!
So, I was fooled too!
Here is some other stuff you don't really care about, unless you are a bio geek or trivia queen:
- The animal kingdom also includes sponges, jellyfish, roundworms, molluscs, arthropods (insects, spiders, lobster and crabs), segmented worms and us--the chordates (fish, amphibians, birds, mammals among them).
- arthropods comprise the largest phylum in the animal kingdom.
- their most distinctive feature is a jointed exoskeleton.
You never know WHAT you might learn in the pcp forum!
Later,
Lynn "bio geek" Allin
