Ben: welcome to our world!
The world of turning in the best performance of your life, and not having the event even mentioned in the paper. The world of training through rain and humidity, and getting lower billing than a fishing rodeo. The world where a marathon takes up half the town for half a day, and gets a column on the back sports page, with maybe, just maybe, a pic of a hottie in matching running gear to accompany. Oh wait, better idea: human interest photo of kid with sign saying, "Go Daddy" on the front page, but no real mention of the sport behind the ahem, sport.
Let me fill you in...this is Alabama, lower Alabama. If it don't involve a dead animal it ain't news. Besides, isn't there some basketball thingy on right now?

But you ask a great question. Why isn't a great local sporting event given some coverage in a local paper? Perhaps if we all queried the powers that be at the papers, they might consider their story assignments and placements. Perhaps if a story about the race appeared, well-writen and edited, they might accept and print it. There might even be some money in that deal. I'm put a man right on it...
