Kevin, you hit at the crux of the problem. Sometimes in the past volunteers showed up and we didn't know what to do with them although I think the last year or so we have done a better job with first time volunteers. There is always a need to have volunteers around the chute to keep runners in the chute, to keep them moving and to get them to pull off their bib tags. If you want to do something more, go to the end of the chute and ask to learn how to take and spindle pull tags, someone will gladly stand aside and let you do it(my wife Jean for instance). It won't be long before you will be asked to do other jobs such as chronomics and select timing.

Most of the people who volunteer don't mind coming out for most of the races each year, not just every one.

The biggest weakness in our club right now is that we need perhaps a whole different crew who can time a race and do the computer results, we cannot rely on Peggy Olive forever. These types of volunteers would have to make a much bigger committment.
