John's right about the lovely joint-eating concrete paths at Municipal Park---concrete's like kryptonite to runners, but even most walkers know better than to do much extended distance on concrete, unless they have unlimited access to replacement hips, knees, etc.

It never seems to fail that you really do have to be careful what you wish for: I moaned and groaned for years about the lack of jogging trails in Mobile, well, now we got 'em, on both shores of the bay, and all concrete. At least I can be relatively sure that when I'm craning my neck while driving to or from work to see if I recognize this runner or that runner running on the sidewalk, they probably aren't any of the athletes I spent 10 years coaching for charity---I'd like to think that even on their way to the grave the smart people I trained will still all still be cutting the tangents and staying off the concrete....
