An idea for area runners??

Perhaps with all of the sudden “interest” in which area has the “Fastest” & “Best” runners, now would be a good time to implement a program that several of us have been kicking around for the past couple of years….an area or regional “Team Competition” Grand Prix. This would be something everyone could have fun with while promoting friendly competition amongst the area running clubs and teams.
There is undoubtedly a wealth of running talent here in the Southeast, from the Florida panhandle (Dobson, Garst, Fazier, Lilly, Whiteside, Unger, and others), thru Mississippi (Leonard Vergunst and others), on over to NOLA which seems to be back on the racing scene in a big way as they kicked everyone’s butt at ATR in the team competition this year. We could limit the area to the Gulf Coast area clubs OR we could also include teams/clubs from around our general area in the Southeast (Montgomery, Birmingham, Atlanta, etc.).
We could choose a “Key” race in each participating area to be designated as a “scoring” race, running from late Summer thru the following late Spring…….with a “rotating trophy” (or something similar) awarded to the winning club at the end of the Grand Prix season. There are of course details that would have to be addressed, but we could keep it fairly simple…….and make it fun for everyone!
I invite anyone interested in putting something like this together to e-mail me with suggestions or ideas.

P.S. No "slight" intended by any missing names above. These were simply the ones who immediately came to mind.
