Don't you have to sign a waiver so that the race organizers/officials will not be held responsible for any injuries, deaths, whatever? It seems to me that the risk of continuing the marathon should be left up to the participants. All marathoners are aware of the potential hazards of such an activity. I would have been extremely agitated at being forced to quit. Not having been there, I don't really know what I would've done.....I would like to think given the option, I would've kept on until the bitter end. In any case, it should be the runner's choice.
