I find running on the roads in Mobile dangerous enough without even discussing biking. I have lived in other cities with really nice paths for bikes and runners and it really adds to the quality of life for residents and would probably help in reducing our whopping obesity rates. One of the really odd things I have happen to me on occasion is to have young men in trucks drive by me cursing and yelling out the window for no apparent reason as they pass me on the opposite side of the road ( I always run off shoulder or on the grass if it's there). The culture of Mobile is definitely a truck culture.
