Sure, charge a fee. $5.00 to $7.00 sounds fine for a One Mile race. There should be a fee so you can pay for course certification, registration, etc...One Mile runners would not get a t-shirt. Awards, sure, give the top 3 finishers an award.
Maybe once a year have it before the main event, but maybe choose like 3 One Mile races a year to certify so people, if able to, can go for the gold, or state records. People like going for the gold if they are given the chance.
I know there was a question on police, you are only adding 15 mins to the race.
I agree with Jon and Lu, lets do it.
Let's certify the Old Mobile 1-mile race, you can always call it a fun run no matter if its certified.
No extra time to volunteer for a board position, You guys do great, keep up the great job and lets have some/several certifed 1-mile races a year for the FUN of it.
